Subcutaneous facial abscess, plumed basilisk
Subcutaneous facial abscess in a plumed basilisk at presentation (left) and immediately after surgical resection (right). Abscesses require complete surgical removal and do not respond to simple lancing. In many cases, the incisions are left open to heal by second intention. Antibiotics are rarely indicated unless disseminated disease is identified.
