Median and ulnar nerve block sites, horse
Sites for blocking the median and ulnar nerves in a horse. These two nerves are typically blocked together to desensitize the antebrachium and structures distal to it. The median nerve ([JS1] [HS2] M) can be blocked using a 1.6- to 2.5-cm (5/8- to 1-inch) needle inserted in a caudolateral direction, at the junction of the ventral edge of the superficial pectoral muscle and the caudal border of the radius. To block the ulnar nerve (U), a 1.6- or 2.5-cm needle is inserted to its hub in a sagittal direction, with the limb bearing weight, between the ulnaris lateralis and flexor carpi ulnaris muscle bellies.
