Mycoplasma haemocanis infection, canine blood smear

Blood smear from a dog with Mycoplasma haemocanis infection. Organisms appear as small, basophilic cocci and rings occurring individually and in chains or as bow-like structures across the surface of RBCs. Increased polychromasia indicates a regenerative anemia (aqueous Romanowsky stain).
