Sagittal reconstructed CT evaluation of the cranial cervical region in a horse with neck pain. Cranial is to the left. Arrows indicate a rounded, contrast-enhancing soft tissue extradural mass compatible with extradural empyema/abscess. This lesion would not be appreciable on radiographs, and the extent of involvement of the spinal cord certainly would not be visible on plain radiography.
