Vaccinating a miniature pig

Vaccinating a miniature pig

Clinical procedure photograph illustrating handling of a miniature pig for vaccination with minimal restraint. An assistant should gently corral the pig, and the pig should be continuously fed throughout the procedure. Rubbing or scratching the skin vigorously can help desensitize the injection site. The detached needle is inserted. If the pig is reactive, vaccination should be paused until it begins to eat again. If the person giving the injection moves slowly, most pigs will resume eating. Then, the syringe should be attached and its contents injected slowly.
