Discontinue insulin CRI and continue to administer 5% dextrose in crystalloid fluids, IV

aRegular insulin (2.2 U/kg for dogs or 1.1 U/kg for cats) is added to 250 mL of saline (0.9% NaCl) solution. Blood glucose concentration is measured every 1–2 hours, and IV CRI rate and concentration of added dextrose is adjusted according to the results. To avoid cerebral edema and neurological signs, blood glucose concentration should not decrease by > 50–100 mg/dL/h.
